Microsoft is currently working on a next-gen console with a unique design and a focus on multiplayer gaming, the company’s CEO said in an interview with CNBC.
The console is called Shen Build and is being developed by a group of engineers at the Redmond, Washington-based company, which is also known for building PCs and consoles.
The Xbox One is the company that launched the Xbox 360 and PS3.
“I think it is an important time for Xbox to make a new console, and Shen Build is a good place to start,” said Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella in an email to CNBC.
“It’s going to be very different from what we did with Xbox One.”
The Xbox One’s next-generation console is expected to launch sometime in 2019.
The Shen Build console is not the first attempt at a next generation console, but it is the first to take advantage of the hardware Microsoft has already demonstrated.
The company has released several prototypes of Xbox One that have shown a new user interface that allows players to interact with games on their television.
Microsoft is also working on an Xbox Live Arcade game, Xbox One S, which it hopes to launch in the first quarter of 2020.
Microsoft is also rumored to be working on new gaming systems, such as the next-Generation HoloLens, which could use augmented reality to enhance the way users see the world around them.
The headset is scheduled to be released in 2020.
